Best Ropes for Magnet Fishing

Hello everyone, today I will try to share my knowledge about ropes that would be suitable for magnet fishing. Many magnet fishers at some point are faced with the question of what is the best rope for magnet fishing?

Dynamic or Static rope for magnet fishing?

One of the biggest mistakes is when magnet fisher is using dynamic rope instead of static rope. Did you know, that there is different types of ropes? dynamic and static? Dynamic rope are most commonly used in rock climbing, because during an accidental fall, this type of ropes can be stretched, thus absorbing the impact of the fall. And Static ropes, which are the opposite of dynamic, and are suitable for magnet fishing, have little mobility and does not stretch. It is important when you catch a large and heavy piece of metal, and for example, you will be sure to pull the magnet catch instead of putting tension on the rope by stretching it.

Also most of the dynamic ropes do not like water and they can lose up to 70 percent reduction in dynamic performance when they are wet.

Nylon or polyethylene rope for Magnet Fishing

Many magnet fisher go for Nylon or polyethylene rope, which are considered the best for this outside hobby.

Nylon ropes are chosen by people because of their reliability and the fact that they are shock resistant. But downside of nylon ropes are that they much less water resistant than polyethylene ropes. Polyethylene ropes are most commonly found in marine applications. Unlike Nylon ropes, polyethylene ropes keep their strength in water. Polypropylene rope as it has less stretch and because the fibres are plastic they dry much quicker.

Magnet fishers, most often chooses nylon ropes because of the ability to ressist shocks. But if you already have a polyethylene rope it may not be a bit worse. The most important thing is not to choose cheap, simple natural fiber ropes, as they are often much weaker, vulnerable to water. In magnet fishing, the main unit is a magnet, and you wouldn’t want to lose it due to cheap, wrongly chosen rope.

Best rope thickness for magnet fishing

The thickness of the rope is a very important factor when engaging in magnet fishing, as a very thin rope will be lighter and the prey will feel better, but it can be uncomfortable to hold with your hands. On the other hand, thicker ropes, will make the catch harder to feel (on rope), but will be much more comfortable to pick up, and thicker, usually means that it can withstand more lb/kg.

Rope diameter

We suggest to choose  0.3-0.6 inch (8-15 mm) thickness and atleast 50 ft (15 meters) length rope. With these measures you will have right magnet fishing rope.

List of Best 3 ropes for magnet fishing

Pros

  • Nylon Rope.
  • Static rope.
  • Thickness 1/3" (8 mm).
  • Length: 65 ft (20 meters)

Cons

  • Little low max tensile force, can be dangerous to tow with the car.

1 Place. Marine Water Rescue Throw Bag with 70 Feet of Marine Rope

Max tensile force: 1500 LB (680 kg)
